Christmas tree takedown, packed for next year

Taking a tree down is the job nobody looks forward to, and it’s where next year’s tree gets ruined: crushed ribbon, tangled lights, a bin of loose hooks. We come back in January and pack it the way we’d want to unpack it.

What takedown includes

  • Ornaments removed and sorted by size and material, glass separated from shatterproof.
  • Lights wound onto reels or cards so they come out untangled, with any dead strands flagged.
  • Ribbon rolled, not folded, so wired ribbon keeps its shape for next year.
  • Picks, sprays and toppers packed where they won’t be crushed.
  • Everything neatly packed into your storage containers and labeled.
  • Fresh trees carried out of the house and the needles cleaned up.
$250Tree up to 9 feet, plus $50 per additional foot
$350Grand Trim trees up to 9 feet, plus $100 per additional foot

Takedown is an add-on to any of our packages. Grand Trim clients get priority January scheduling.

Storing décor in an Idaho house

Where the bins go matters as much as how they’re packed.

Skip the attic if you can

Treasure Valley summers regularly run past 100 degrees, and an attic gets far hotter than that. Heat softens the glue on glittered ornaments and picks, warps plastic, and can leave wired ribbon creased for good. A closet, basement or climate-controlled storage unit is kinder.

Label by tree, then by layer

We label bins by what’s inside and where it goes: “Great room tree, large ornaments” beats “Christmas 3.” Next year you open the right bin first.

Keep a one-page record

Note what went on the tree and how much of it, and tuck the page in the top bin. Next year you’ll know exactly what to add instead of guessing in the aisle.

Takedown questions

When do takedowns happen?

We schedule takedowns in early January. If you want your tree down on a particular day, tell us when you book; Grand Trim clients get first pick of dates.

What do you do with a fresh tree?

We carry it out and clean up the needles. Most Treasure Valley cities run tree recycling or curbside pickup after the holidays; check your city’s pickup dates and size rules.

Can you take down a tree you didn’t decorate?

Takedown is offered as an add-on to our decorating packages. If you decorated your own tree and want help taking it down, ask us; it depends on our January calendar.

Book the takedown when you book the tree

Adding takedown when you book gives you the widest choice of January dates.
