Christmas tree decorating questions
Common questions, answered plainly. If yours isn’t here, ask us directly.
Booking
How far ahead do I need to book?
The earlier the better. We’re taking a limited number of trees in 2026, and the days right after Thanksgiving (November 26) will go first. October is a good time to reach out.
Which towns do you serve?
Eagle, Boise, Star and Meridian, plus Garden City and, depending on the date, Middleton, Kuna and Nampa.
What do you need from me to give a price?
The tree height and the date you want it finished. Photos of the room and your décor aren’t required, but they help us plan. With that we can recommend a package and confirm the cost.
When can I reach you?
Monday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call or text 208.946.7629, or email houseoftrimco@gmail.com.
Install day
How long will you be in my home?
Most trees take three to five hours. A 9-foot artificial tree with heavy ribbon work sits at the longer end; a 7-foot tree with your own décor at the shorter end.
How should I get ready?
Clear the area around the tree, set your décor bins nearby, and make sure there’s an outlet within reach. A fresh tree should be in its stand and watered at least a day ahead so its branches can settle.
Do you work around kids and pets?
All the time; we have seven kids between us. The low branches get the unbreakable pieces.
Do you clean up?
Yes. We sweep up needles and packaging and take our boxes with us.
Packages and décor
What’s the difference between the three packages?
Where the décor comes from. The Essential Trim ($450) uses your décor. The Signature Trim ($1,195) uses one of our curated collections, which you keep. The Grand Trim ($2,250 for a tree up to 7 feet) is designed from scratch for your room after a private consultation, using décor from high-end retailers, trade vendors and artisan collections. All three include full branch shaping and installation. Details are on the packages page.
Do I get to keep the décor?
With the Signature and Grand Trim, yes. Everything in the design is yours.
Do you provide the tree?
We decorate the tree you have, fresh or artificial. If you’re buying a new one this year, ask us before you buy; we’re glad to help with height and shape.
Fresh or artificial: which looks better decorated?
Both can look beautiful. Artificial trees take more shaping but can go up earlier and hold heavy ornaments evenly. Fresh trees smell wonderful but should go up closer to Thanksgiving, and in a heated house they need water every day.
How many ornaments will my tree need?
For a full look, plan on 15 to 20 per foot of height, so 150 to 180 on a 9-foot tree, in a mix of sizes. We wrote a whole guide: how many ornaments a tree needs.
Takedown
When do takedowns happen?
In early January. Grand Trim clients get priority scheduling.
What does takedown cost?
$250 for a tree up to 9 feet, plus $50 per additional foot, or $350 for a Grand Trim tree up to 9 feet, plus $100 per additional foot.
Do you store décor for me?
No. We pack everything neatly into your own storage containers at your home and label them. Our takedown page has tips on where to keep them.
Businesses
Do you decorate offices and storefronts?
Yes: trees for offices, lobbies, boutiques, salons, restaurants and model homes, installed outside business hours. See commercial decorating.
